Compress PDF
Reduce PDF file size while preserving document quality where possible.
This tool rebuilds the file and removes redundant structure. It does not rasterize pages or lower image quality. Compression results depend on the contents of your PDF. Already compact files may not get smaller. We never replace your file with a larger one.

What this tool does
Compress PDF rebuilds one PDF using safe structural optimization to reduce unnecessary PDF data and compress page content streams where possible.
The tool can remove duplicate PDF objects and optimize the document structure without converting PDF pages into images.
Compression results depend on the contents of the PDF. Image-heavy files may change very little because embedded images are not recompressed.
If the optimized PDF is not strictly smaller than the original, the original file is returned instead of giving you a larger download.
How to use it
- Upload one PDF file up to 25 MB.
- Select Compress PDF. The current tool uses one standard optimization level.
- Wait while the worker rebuilds the PDF.
- Download compressed.pdf when processing finishes.
- Compare the original and compressed sizes in the result information to see whether the file was reduced.
Important limitations
- Each job accepts exactly one PDF up to 25 MB.
- There is currently one standard compression level; adjustable low, medium, or high compression settings are not available.
- A smaller file size is not guaranteed. PDFs that are already optimized may remain nearly the same size.
- Embedded photographs and other images are not recompressed, so image-heavy PDFs may see limited savings.
- Pages are not rasterized. The tool does not intentionally reduce visual quality by turning pages into images.
- Encrypted PDFs cannot be compressed by this tool.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I compress a PDF online?
- Yes. Upload one PDF up to 25 MB and select Compress PDF to run the structural optimization process online.
- How much smaller will my PDF become?
- There is no fixed percentage. Results depend on the PDF structure and contents. Some files become smaller while already optimized or image-heavy PDFs may change very little.
- Does compressing a PDF reduce image quality?
- No. This tool does not recompress embedded images or convert PDF pages into images. It focuses on structural optimization.
- Why is my compressed PDF the same size?
- The optimization may not find enough redundant PDF structure to remove. When the optimized result is not smaller, the tool returns the original file rather than a larger one.
- Can I choose a compression level?
- No. The current version uses one standard structural optimization level and does not offer separate low, medium, or high compression settings.
- Can encrypted PDFs be compressed?
- No. Encrypted PDFs are rejected by the current compression tool.
