How to Compress a PDF Online
Large PDF files can be harder to upload, email, store, or share. PDF compression can reduce unnecessary document data, but the amount of space you save depends on how the original PDF was created.
What does PDF compression do?
PDF compression can reduce file size by optimizing the internal structure of a PDF. Depending on the document, redundant objects or page content may be reduced without turning the pages into images.
How to compress a PDF online
- Open the Compress PDF tool .
- Upload one PDF file.
- Select Compress PDF to start the optimization.
- Wait for processing to finish.
- Download compressed.pdf and compare it with the original file.
Will compression always make a PDF smaller?
No. There is no fixed percentage reduction. A PDF that has already been optimized may change very little, while a document with redundant structure may become smaller. If the optimized result is not strictly smaller, ME & MY PDF returns the original file instead of giving you a larger download.
Does PDF compression reduce image quality?
The current ME & MY PDF compression tool does not recompress embedded images and does not rasterize PDF pages. It focuses on structural optimization rather than intentionally lowering visual quality.
What is the maximum PDF size?
The current Compress PDF tool accepts one PDF up to 25 MB per job.
Why did my PDF barely get smaller?
Many modern PDFs are already compact, and image-heavy PDFs may contain most of their size in embedded images. Because this tool does not recompress those images, the reduction may be small.
Can encrypted PDFs be compressed?
No. Encrypted PDFs are rejected by the current Compress PDF tool.
Tips before compressing a PDF
- Keep the original PDF so you can compare the files after compression.
- Check the output document after downloading it.
- If you need a much smaller file, remember that structural compression may not be enough for image-heavy PDFs.
- Avoid repeatedly compressing the same file when there is no meaningful reduction.
