How to Convert PDF to Word Online
Converting a PDF to Word can make text easier to edit, reuse, and update. The quality of the result depends heavily on how the original PDF was created. This guide explains what works well and what to expect from a PDF-to-Word conversion.
What is PDF to Word conversion?
PDF to Word conversion creates an editable DOCX document from a PDF. It attempts to reconstruct text, paragraphs, tables, and other document elements so the result can be edited in Microsoft Word or another DOCX-compatible application.
How to convert a PDF to Word
- Open the PDF to Word tool .
- Upload one supported PDF file.
- Select Convert to Word.
- Wait for the server-side conversion to complete.
- Download the resulting converted.docx file.
- Open the DOCX file and review the formatting before making important edits.
Which PDFs work best?
Born-digital, text-based PDFs usually give the best results because their text can be extracted and reconstructed into an editable document.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Not with the current ME & MY PDF PDF-to-Word tool. Scanned or image-only PDFs generally require optical character recognition (OCR) before their text can become editable. OCR is not supported in the current version.
Why does the Word file look different from the PDF?
PDF and DOCX use different document models. During conversion, text, spacing, columns, tables, headers, footers, and other layout elements may need to be rebuilt. The result is editable, but it is not guaranteed to be a pixel-perfect copy of the PDF.
What are the current file limits?
The current PDF to Word tool accepts one PDF up to 25 MB and up to 50 pages per job. Processing is also subject to a 90-second conversion limit.
Can encrypted PDFs be converted?
No. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are rejected by the current converter.
Can PDFs with rotated pages be converted?
No. PDFs with rotated pages are not supported by the current PDF-to-Word converter.
Tips for getting a better Word result
- Use a text-based PDF whenever possible.
- Check the source PDF before conversion for rotated or protected pages.
- Review tables, columns, headers, and spacing after conversion.
- Keep the original PDF in case you need to compare the editable document with the source.
